Everyday conversations
This chapter provides practical dialogues for situations you'll encounter regularly in France and other French-speaking countries. Study the flow and structure, not just the individual phrases — these patterns can be adapted by swapping vocabulary. Each dialogue demonstrates appropriate register (formal vous or informal tu) for the context.
Meeting people
The vous/tu distinction is crucial in French. Using tu with someone you should address as vous can cause serious offence. When uncertain, use vous — the other person will invite you to use tu if they prefer ("On peut se tutoyer?"). In professional settings, vous is the default even among colleagues.
Formal introduction
